Book Update

We began writing the ESP handbook about a year ago. Much of the doubt, false starts, and anxiety are distant memories as we enjoy the march toward publication, scheduled for January 5, 2010.

Back in June 2008, Lisa Belkin brought ESP up for discussion with her cover story on the NYT Sunday Magazine called When Mom and Dad Share It All. We heard many of you excitedly weighing in saying that you lived this way too. In turn, we interviewed close to 50 couples who wanted to share their flavor of ESP in hopes of bringing the priorities of an equal partnership and a balanced life to anyone who wanted to listen.

We are honored to have Lisa Belkin kick off the topic again with the Foreword and are happy to reveal the cover that was recently approved by Perigee, an imprint of Penguin Books.

So did you ask Lisa Belkin why she insists on calling her parenting blog the Motherlode, even though she insists it's for fathers as well as mothers? In the ultimate case of the pot calling the kettle black, she did an entry about how naming parenting classes/programs "mommy and me" discourages fathers from attending.

Yet she won't change the name of her blog to something more inclusive. And now she wrote the forward to a book on equally shared parent.

I love the cover. Wonderful. Congratulations. The cover is a big milestone. Then it really begins to feel real.

Hey, Amy here. This is Marc's post but I'll make a brief comment. We're pretty pleased with the cover ourselves; in fact, I got all teary-eyed when I saw it for the first time. Wow - our baby!

Dennis, I can understand your frustration with the title of Lisa's NYT blog. When the Times chose this name for it, Lisa raised the same objections to them that you mention, but she lost that battle. She knew we'd dislike the name too - very much so. So she tries to address this from time to time, and I still secretly hope that the Times will change it. But Lisa isn't the enemy here. She has done more to bring ESP to the public forum than anyone else with her Magazine article last year, and continues to actively support our philosophies and messages. We are deeply appreciative of her connection with us, and honored to have her as our Foreword writer.

Amy, if it was the NYT's decision on the name, how come whenever Lisa addresses it, she always says it was her choice and she likes it?
